The Latin word frui (eng. “to enjoy”) in the Augustinian sense means specifically to love something for its own sake or as an end in itself. The term frui can only be applied to the love of creatures for God since God alone deserves to be loved for His own sake and as an ultimate end. This does not mean that we cannot love the created order, but that it can only be loved as a means to the higher end of the love of God. Thus God is loved for his sake alone, whereas self and neighbor are loved for God’s sake because they are God’s creatures and reflect the divine love. Purpose
The primary purpose of this blog is to explore this thing called “Love.” Just what is Love anyways? How can we love? And just what might that look like in practice? Hopefully, I can some day come to a conclusion similar to Jesus, Apostle Paul, Apostle John, St. Augustine, and the rest of the people of God, that “deus caritas est (God is love).”
